Railroad Technology Services
Train scheduling, blocking, interline messaging, and QA testing for Class 1 and Shortline Rail Carriers. Three decades of railroad operational and IT experience.
Trans-System International Company has worked inside North American freight railroading since 1996. We've built and tested operational systems for the major Class 1 carriers and supported their interchange messaging with Shortline and regional partners.
Carriers We've Worked With
Direct engagements: The former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF), Canadian National (CN), Conrail (CR), Grand Trunk Corporation (GT), and BNSF Railway.
Counterparty engagements (during our BNSF work): Union Pacific (UP), Norfolk Southern (NS), CSX Transportation (CSXT), Amtrak (AMTK), Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC), Railinc, and the Association of American Railroads (AAR) on EDI 161 Trainsheet and 418J interline messaging.

eRailSafe Certified
Trans-System International Company is enrolled and certified in the eRailSafe program — the Class 1 and Shortline Rail Carriers industry standard for contractor safety and security management for railroads and the vendors that serve them. The program is administered by Cisive in partnership with the Class 1 carriers, and completion of every requirement is a precondition for any contractor accessing railroad property.
Every TSI employee and contractor who touches railroad work completes the full eRailSafe credentialing cycle:
- Criminal background check — comprehensive screening through Cisive before any railroad-property assignment.
- Safety & security training and testing — carrier-specific awareness modules with required passing scores, refreshed on each carrier's mandated cadence.
- Photo ID badge — every approved person carries an eRailSafe-issued photo badge while on railroad property, visible at all times per railroad rules.
We do not sub-contract or staff railroad engagements outside this program. If we put someone on your property, they're cleared, trained, and badged before they walk in.
eRailSafe® and the eRailSafe logo are the registered trademarks of eVerifile, Inc. / Cisive. Their appearance here identifies Trans-System International Company's participation as a certified vendor and does not imply additional sponsorship, partnership, or affiliation beyond the program itself.
Train Scheduling
Operating-schedule design and maintenance, slot management, interline coordination, conflict resolution, and integration with carrier dispatcher systems. Service-design support for new lanes and re-cuts.
Blocking
Train-consist and car-block design that meets downstream classification yard requirements while maximizing crew-assignment value. Modeling and analytics for manifest, intermodal, and unit-train operations.
Service Scheduling
Crew, locomotive, and facility scheduling — coordinating people, motive power, and yards to execute the operating plan with work-rule and hours-of-service compliance.
EDI 161 Trainsheet
Generation, validation, exchange, and ingest of AAR EDI 161 Trainsheet messages between carriers. Closely coordinated with Railinc and the AAR on industry-wide formats and validation.
418J Interline Messaging
418J implementation, monitoring, exception handling, and reconciliation — interchange messaging that holds up under audit. Counterparty experience across UP, NS, CSXT, AMTK, CPKC, CN.
Railroad QA & Testing
Independent QA with deep domain knowledge of how rail systems actually behave in production — regression, integration, interchange-message conformance, and end-to-end validation.
